With insights from the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, employment law firm Ogletree Deakins, and support from SHRM, SHRM of Greater Phoenix, and the Arizona SHRM State Council, the Certificate in Veteran Employment and Development provides an in-depth look at:
- The state of veteran employment and underemployment
- Key employment laws impacting veteran hiring, beyond USERRA (Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act)
- Analysis of real military resumes, translating military terms, ranks, and cultural nuances
- Recognizing interview behaviors unique to veterans
- Tailoring developmental strategies for veterans and military spouses in the workplace
The program goes beyond basics, with practical exercises and strategies for integrating veterans and military spouses into the workforce. Designed for HR professionals, hiring managers, and people leaders, this SHRM-recognized course is eligible for 12 SHRM recertification credits.

The Certificate in Veteran Employment and Development is a first-of-its-kind certification for HR professionals and hiring managers seeking to expand their knowledge and understanding of the nuances of recruiting, hiring, retaining, and growing veteran talent.
The certificate course offers twelve hours of SHRM-provided recorded lectures and learning resources, divided into seven modules ranging from 45 minutes to approximately 3 hours each.
Upon successful completion of all seven modules, learners receive a digital badge from ASU's W. P. Carey School of Business.
