Overview

The CAPM® Exam Prep Certificate is a beginner-friendly, intentionally designed program created by expert faculty at ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA). It’s ideal for early-career professionals, career changers, or those already working in project environments without formal training who want to earn a globally recognized credential and advance their career. It also works if you're already CAPM®-certified: PMI® requires 15 PDUs every three years to keep the credential active, and this certificate delivers 29, with 14 to spare.

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®), issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), is the leading entry-level certification for project professionals. It signals to employers that you understand core project management principles, frameworks, and processes, including Predictive, Agile, and Hybrid methodologies.

This flexible, self-paced program includes seven structured courses aligned to the latest PMBOK® Guide and PMI®’s CAPM® Exam Content Outline (ECO). Developed by experienced CISA faculty who hold advanced project management credentials—including PMP®, PMI-ACP®, PgMP®, PMI-PMOCP®, and GPM-bTM—this program reflects both academic rigor and real-world industry relevance. As a PMI® Authorized Training Partner, ASU delivers instruction that meets the highest standards for quality and exam alignment.

Through interactive modules, downloadable tools, and a full-length mock CAPM® exam simulation, you’ll build both the confidence to pursue certification and the skills to launch or grow a successful project management career.

Important: This program prepares you for the CAPM® exam but does not include the official certification or exam fee. The exam must be scheduled and taken separately through the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Earn PMI PDUs while you prepare for the CAPM® exam

Whether you're new to project management, changing careers, brushing up on core skills or renewing an existing CAPM® certification, this certificate meets you where you are. The CAPM® exam prep certificate now qualifies for professional development units (PDU) through the Project Management Institute. Every course in the series maps to a PMI® Talent Triangle® area, so the work you put into passing the CAPM® exam also counts toward keeping an active PMI® credential in good standing. Complete all seven courses and earn 29 PDUs total, spread across business acumen, ways of working and power skills. Each course lists its own PDU value, so partial progress still counts.

PMI Talent Triangle® breakdown
