Overview

Fashion work requires the creation of precise, well-fitting garment patterns — something now made easier using cutting-edge software. With the help of Digital Patternmaking with Optitex, you can master the fundamentals of pattern drafting, from basic skirts, bodices, trousers and more. Explore essential techniques such as establishing garment shapes and placing darts in 2D to ensure impeccable fits.

Another major tool offered by pattern design software involves 3D prototyping. Harnessing 3D modeling capabilities, you can use Optitex to draft and fit garments onto virtual models, using these visualizations to perfect your drape, silhouette and fit. Realistic views of these designs in 3D as well as 2D can help you save time and resources while allowing you more creativity and room to experiment. Create sleeves, trousers and various patterns for men and women, bringing your ideas to life with simulated fabric properties and precise visualization. Equip yourself with the skills to draft, design and develop a wide array of garments. Take the course on Digital Patternmaking with Optitex to unleash your creativity and make designs fit for the runway!

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Set up system preferences and convert pattern instructions into digital form, apply them in Optitex and accurately draft a basic skirt block pattern.
  • Create a basic bodice top by setting up the patterns using darts and Optitex tools to add more detail and achieve a precise fit.
  • Draft and fit a bodice dress or sleeves onto a 3D model by changing fabric properties, assembling the garment for 3D rendering, adjusting the garment as needed within simulations and customizing to precise measurement.
  • Personalize a pattern creation to develop a basic trouser block suitable for multiple models.
  • Create men’s upper block patterns in Optitex for various garments with individual fabric properties, simulation and visualization, using measurement charts to design usable patterns for a torso, sleeves and trousers.
  • Draft, fit and render digital men’s block patterns in 3D, updating patterns based on adjustments for fit or garment behavior simulations.
  • Draft and develop diverse women’s patterns in Optitex with varying complexity, including bodice darts, skirts, peg skirts, gathered skirts and lantern sleeve dresses, and make them suitable for multiple models.
